How we grade used laptops
Buying a used laptop online means trusting a stranger's description. So we made the description specific enough to hold us to. Here's exactly what each grade means and how we arrive at it.
- Battery health
- 85% or higher
- Cosmetic condition
- No marks visible at arm's length. You'd have to hunt under direct light to find anything.
- Best for
- You want something that feels new, and you care how it looks on a desk.
- Battery health
- 75% – 84%
- Cosmetic condition
- Light scuffs on the lid or base, maybe some shine on well-used keys. Nothing structural, no screen marks.
- Best for
- You want the best value and a few cosmetic marks don't bother you.
- Battery health
- 65% – 74%
- Cosmetic condition
- Visible scuffs, scratches or a dent. Fully functional, and we say exactly where the damage is.
- Best for
- You want the lowest possible price and the laptop will mostly stay plugged in.
Every unit is tested
Keyboard key by key, every port, speakers, webcam, Wi-Fi, hinges and the trackpad. Anything that doesn't work is listed or the machine isn't sold.
Battery is measured, not guessed
We read the actual design capacity and cycle count off the machine and publish both numbers. No rounding up.
Real photos, always
Every used listing shows photographs of that exact unit — including the damage. We never use manufacturer stock images on a used laptop.
Serviced before listing
Cleaned inside and out, vents cleared, thermal paste replaced where needed, and a fresh OS install.
What's in a condition report
Every used listing carries a condition report. It's the same set of fields every time, so you can compare two machines without decoding different sales pitches:
- Grade — A, B or C, as defined above.
- Battery health and cycle count — read from the machine itself.
- Cosmetic notes — written in plain language, naming where marks actually are rather than saying "minor wear".
- What's in the box — including whether the charger is the original or a replacement.
- Anything wrong with it — a stiff shutter, a weak battery, a butterfly keyboard. If it would annoy you after a week, it goes in the report.
Warranty on used laptops
Grade A and B machines carry a 6-month store warranty. Grade C carries 3 months. That covers parts and labour on anything that fails in normal use, handled at our shop. It doesn't cover accidental damage, liquid damage or normal further battery wear.
If the report was wrong
You have 7 days from delivery to send a laptop back if it doesn't match its condition report, and we cover the return shipping. That promise is the whole point of grading — it's what makes the report worth reading. See our return and warranty policy for the full details.
